About Us
The Free Enterprise Foundation
It's been four centuries since the first permanent settler stepped ashore in Jamestown, Virginia Colony, and the American adventure was launched. These settlers came to a new world to set their lives free from the encumbrances of the old. Once established as a free nation, this New World lured thousands more to follow.
The impact of American enterprise is now global, and through war and peace it has transformed the world. Our free enterprise has fostered democracy and individual freedom. It has encouraged the education and concern for each individual as a productive citizen of our rapidly shrinking planet.
The Free Enterprise Foundation has been created to celebrate those values and to recognize individuals and enterprises that have led the way in protecting our country's vitality through their contributions to our society. Over time, the Foundation will provide to those in commerce tools of best practice to help continually raise their level of performance.
The Foundation will provide to the public materials inspiring a continued awareness of our responsibility as stewards to protect the civilization that has been passed to us by our ancestors' sacrifice. We will continually strive to keep those values fresh and uppermost in the minds of our citizens.
The Foundation is a tax exempt, independent research institute headquartered at the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. We have a close working relationship with faculty at the Citadel, the College of Charleston, and the Medical University of South Carolina. Through the generosity of these institutions, individuals and corporate donors, we have already begun to provide lectures on best practice for college students and interested businesses. We are producing a quality newsletter on ethics, civic responsibility, leadership, and business best practice and have been asked to undertake a number of critical projects in those areas by government, academia and interested businesses. We are also planning our first major award ceremony for a lifetime of exemplary leadership service to our country by a leading national figure.
