An Open Letter to President Barack Obama
RE: August 4 WhiteHouse.gov blog posting titled "Facts Are Stubborn Things" Dear Mr. President, In an August 4 WhiteHouse.gov blog posting by Macon Phillips -- ironically titled "Facts Are Stubborn Things" -- Mr. Phillips wrote: "There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can't keep track of all of them here at the White House, we're asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov." One wonders what Rahm E. & Posse plan to do with this information. Are Americans who oppose the policy prescriptions part of ObamaCare supposed to feel threatened by the White House's above-cited request? Mr. President, I'm unsure how much more Banana Republicesque your messages to Americans can get. You're the president of the United States of America, and your constituents would prefer for you to act presidential -- not like some thuggish hood trying to scare them into submission. The fact is, Mr. President, no one, including members of Congress who are trying to sell your administration's healthcare "reform" proposal -- sorry, "health insurance reform," that is -- to the public, seems to really know what's contained in HR3200. Most of us who have read portions of the bill are of the impression you are seeking to reform the healthcare marketplace (i.e. a marketplace which represents one-sixth of the American economy), not the health insurance industry. Last I checked you were trying to "fix" America's healthcare systems. Have I been misinformed? Is "health insurance reform" your goal? Your administration's blogger is right: Facts, much like politicians who disregard them when voting to enact legislation they have not even read, are stubborn things, Mr. President. Please advise us what the facts are. Our elected officials in D.C. don't even seem to know. How can Americans know if we're falling victim to a "disinformation" campaign if no one knows the specifics pertaining to what you and your Democrat colleagues in the Congress hope to accomplish?
